1.Ignoring the Keywords:

This is one of the most common mistakes most people do when building a website/blog. What this will do is..to end you up creating a site with keywords that nobody searches on the web or you could create a site with most searched (competitive) keywords on the net which will make you wait forever to see any results.

So, you should do a quick research on the keywords that most people search...You can use the Google Adwords tool to check whether the keywords you choose have a good amount of searches per month.Also, type your keywords in google search and make sure that you feel confident reaching the first page.

2. Spamming the Keywords:

Some people create web pages just repeating the keywords hundreds of times or blending the font text color with the background color (hidden text)..but, this won't help you increase your search engine rankings.

Also, remember that you are making the content for your visitors, not just for the search engines. Don't repeat the keyword too many times in the article...it doesn't sound right when you read it back.

3. Javascript Menus:

Now a days, lot of people are using Javascript menus for navigation,but search engines can't read javascript.So, you have to build your site accordingly and make sure that the search engines and visitors to your site can quickly navigate the pages. You should consider building an xml/html sitemap, so that all your links are easily crawlable by the search engines.

4. Bad Linking:

You have to be careful on the outgoing links. Linking to irrelevant sites (bad neighborhoods),and sites that have been penalized by Google can seriously effect your own rankings. Also, make sure that you don't have too many outgoing links on a single page. According to Google Webmaster tools, you shouldn't have more than 100 outgoing links on a single web page.

5.Forgetting about Off site optimization:

Lot of people optimize their site well, but they forget about off site optimization...ie, building good and quality backlinks from relevant sites. It is a good way to increase your search engine rankings quickly... Get links from strong sites with your main keywords in the anchor text. Build backlinks by submitting articles, participating in related forums,etc.

Anchor text..what's the use of it..??

What is Anchor text?
An Anchor text is the visible text which is clickable in a hyperlink.For example,

"Blogger Tricks -Your online source for Blogger Templates"

In the above line,.. the Clickable text i.e, "Blogger Tricks" is the anchor text.
While Search engines crawl a webpage, the Anchor text tells them what that linked page is about.In the above example, the Search engines assume that the linked page is about blogger,blogging,tricks,tips,...related key words and it helps that webpage to rank higher for that respective keywords.

But, some people who don't know the importance of Anchor text do like this:

"Your online source for Blogger Templates - Click Here".

In the above case, the Search engines consider the linked page is about click,here,etc .. which are unrelated to your site... :(
So, if you understand the importance of it and use it cleverly, it will increase your search engine rankings very effectively.. especially in Google and it's very important if you want your website to be in top 10 for a particular keyword.

so.. How to do the Anchor text optimization?

Simple! always use the related keywords as Anchor text while linking to any webpage.
If you purchased any incoming links,make sure that one of your top keywords is in the anchor text.The more inbound links your get with that keywords, the more chances of your site will make it to top 10.These small things can make a huge difference :)

Placing Adsense ads inside or between blog posts

How to add adsense ads inside Blogger blog posts or between blog posts:-

Adding adsense ads inside blog posts is a very good thing to do to increase your CTR.
CTR means"(the number of times your ad clicked) divided by (number of times it is shown).So,the more CTR you have,the more $$ you get.

As we know,there are more chances for the ads to be clicked when they are in the middle(blog posts) rather than at the sidebars(especially the right sidebar),footer,etc.So,


How to place adsense ads between Blog posts:

By doing this,the adsense units will be displayed between the blog posts in the homepage,archive pages and permalink(individual post pages).
Follow the procedure to do this:

1.Sign in to your blogger dashboard>click on the layout link

2.Click on the Edit link in the "Blog Posts' column[look at the below screenshot]
..............a pop up window opens..........

3.Check the box next to 'Show ads between Posts'

next,configure the ads,choose the format,colours,etc and SAVE THE CHANGES.
That's it! Now your adsense ads will show between blog posts.

1.Sign in to your blogger dashboard>layout>Edit html

Check the box next to 'Expand Widget Templates'

2.Scroll down the window till you see this code

3.Replace that code in the template with the below code

4.Again,scroll down the template and find out data-post body tag[look at the below screenshot]
and paste the below code just above that code{this will show ads above the post body}.If you want ads to show below the post,paste the code below that tag.

This tip explains how to generate and submit blogger sitemap to google webmaster tools:
Before doing this,let me say what are sitemaps and how they will help us.The reason we use them is,they will help google bot to crawl,index pages of your site and tell you if there are any problems when they try to index it.It also helps you to know,how many pages exactly are indexed,and what people searched in the search engine to visit your site.
Let me explain the detailed procedure on how to submit your blogger sitemap to google.
1.First,go to google webmaster tools and sign in with your gmail account.
2.After you logged in, you will see this asking you to add a site.

Add your blog url(ex:kranthitips.blogspot.com).Don't add with http or www.

3.Next,it asks you to verify your site.It is just to confirm whether you are the owner or not.

CLICK on the 'verify your site' link.





Next,




4.There are two ways to verify your ownership but, there is only one way for the blogger users to add a metatag.

5.Copy the metatag.

Now,sign into your blogger account>click the layout button>Edit html and paste the metatag just after the head tag and save the changes.


and click the verify button in the google webmaster tools and there will be a confirmation message saying that you have sucessfully verified.

Now,you have to submit a sitemap for google to crawl your site.Go back to the google webmaster dashboard or (home) and click the 'Add' link which is next to your blog name and in the Sitemaps column.Then,you see this,



Choose 'Add general web sitemap' from the dropdown menu and type rss.xml or atom.xml next to your blog address as shown below

or

and click the 'Add General Web Sitemap' button.

6.That's it.Now your sitemap is successfully submitted to google.Check 2 or 3 days after and you will see the detailed statistics of your blog(indexed pages,any errors,etc.)

This tip explains you how to embed a flash(FLV or SWF videos) movie in your blogger(blogspot) blog or any other blogs.

There are many sources which will allow you to upload your flash files,but most of them are not free.However, you can upload your flash files on Google pages for FREE.
Simply follow the steps as shown in the below pictures.
1.Click on the upload link which is at the right side after you logged into 'google pages'

I will show you an example.I have uploaded a file named 'flash.swf',after uploading click on the link as shown in the figure

Next,save the url

note that url and paste it in the below code and use it whereever you want,in your blog post,in the sidebar,etc.
